Amazing Results Are Possible With Dental Implant-Supported Restorations

Implant-supported dentures are an essential part of most full mouth reconstruction procedures. If your smile needs more than one treatment in order to restore its function, health, and appearance, Dr. Han in Leesburg can combine multiple treatments to fully rehabilitate your smile.

Why Dr. Han Recommends Implant-Supported Dentures  OVER TRADITIONAL DENTURES

Dr. Han offers both traditional and implant-supported full dentures and partial dentures. While both traditional and implant-supported options have unique features that could make them desirable to certain dental patients, Dr. Han recommends implant-supported dentures instead of traditional dentures for a number of reasons, including:

No Movement and No Friction

It's easy to take a stable bite for granted. But when your natural teeth have been replaced by an unstable denture that makes it virtually impossible to eat certain foods, speak with total clarity, or feel generally confident in your day-to-day life, the importance of a functional bite becomes all too clear. Dr. Han can provide you with custom-crafted implant-supported dentures with benefits that outweigh the satisfaction of saving a little money with an inferior solution.

Prevent Jawbone Atrophy

Losing your natural teeth causes many obvious issues. But many people don't realize that the consequences of lost teeth reach far beyond a compromised appearance and ability to chew. Your jaw depends on stimulation from tooth roots to retain bone tissue. In the absence of tooth roots, the body will begin to resorb the bone tissue, causing the jaw to shrink and change shape. Dental implants are the only restorative solution that can provide the stimulation your jaw needs. By choosing an implant-supported denture, you will likely need far fewer denture adjustments, and you can avoid the need for costly bone grafting to replace lost bone tissue in the future.

Value

Many dental patients are interested in traditional dentures because they cost less and qualify for insurance coverage under most basic plans. Unfortunately, that coverage is steadily diminishing. Meanwhile, because traditional dentures don't stop the atrophy that follows tooth loss, they need frequent adjustment, which costs you both time and money. And since traditional dentures are unstable, they may also cause you to eat fewer foods rich in fiber and other nutrients, which can lead to costly health issues. Implant-supported dentures cost more, but the benefits are far greater.
We are aware that cost is the main reason why many patients choose traditional dentures instead of implant-supported dentures, which is why we have options that can help make the treatment more affordable. We can coordinate low-interest and interest-free financing, and in some cases, we can convert your current denture into an implant-supported denture. During your consultation, we want you to be upfront with us about your concerns so we can determine a solution you can afford without having to compromise quality.

Dr Han has been a godsend. He’s done multiple extractions, implants, a sinus lift, and implant crowns and he’s the best periodontist I’ve ever had. His staff is awesome too for everything from cleaning and fillings to Kim’s office management.

I have gone to Dr. Han for over ten years. He is the best dentist in the whole world. He has saved my teeth whenever possible. I wouldn't have any teeth at all if not for him. He is intelligent, kind, caring, sometimes funny, always making patients feel better and easier about their problems.

All-on-X Fully Customized Implant Dentures

If you have been considering implant-supported dentures, you have probably heard about All-on-4, a technique that uses just four implants to support a complete denture on the upper or lower arch. By placing two anterior implants vertically and two posterior implants at 45-degree angles, the implants can often provide excellent support even if the patient has suffered a small degree of bone atrophy. In most cases, this configuration also allows the implants to support a temporary denture immediately following placement.

Dr. Han offers a variation called All-on-X. In other words, some patients may require more than four implants to support the complete denture, and in these cases, he can modify the technique to meet their needs. During your consultation, he will assess the state of your smile to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants and the All-on-X technique. Our goal is to provide you with a solution that is not only timely and effective, but will also provide you with the longest-lasting benefits. Dr. Han and his team look forward to helping you experience a new chapter of oral health and confidence in your life.

What Does All-on-X Cost?

It depends primarily on what’s involved. A surgery requiring a bone graft and extractions can cost $25,000 to $35,000. This includes the cost of a temporary same-day denture worn during the healing phase and a permanent zirconia denture (typically $8,000 to $9,000 per arch). Zirconia is the strongest material used in crafting replacement teeth, and could potentially last the rest of your life.

A simpler case involving only implant placement and a viable existing denture converted to fit onto your implants could cost $8,000 to $10,000 per arch.

While insurance does not cover dental implants, it may contribute to the denture and some preparatory procedures. During your consultation, we will be glad to provide you with an estimated cost of treatment.

The Process of Receiving
an Implant-Supported Denture

We work with a lab that provides hand-finished touches to each denture for an incredibly realistic appearance.
We work with a lab that provides hand-finished touches to each denture for an incredibly realistic appearance.

Initial Consultation

We carefully assess the health of your gums and any remaining teeth. We will also take digital x-rays and a CBCT scan to determine the density of the bone in your jaw.

Preparatory Work

Dental implants require a certain amount of bone tissue for a stable foundation. If you have worn traditional dentures for a long time, or have waited for a long time to address missing teeth, you may need a bone grafting procedure to replace lost tissue. Meanwhile, if you need to extract teeth or resolve issues such as gum disease or decay in any remaining teeth, this must be completed prior to implant placement surgery.

Implant Placement Surgery

Once Dr. Han determines that your jaw is ready to accommodate implants, he will schedule your surgery. On the day of treatment, you will receive local anesthesia and optional sedation to ensure your comfort. Next, the implants will be placed in the jaw.

Temporary Denture

In most cases, we will provide a temporary denture immediately after implant placement, allowing you to leave our office with a complete smile. Although your denture will not provide full function until the jaw has completely healed, your temporary will allow you to have a normal appearance, enunciate, and chew very soft foods.

Osseointegration

The process of the titanium implants fusing to the jawbone tissue is called osseointegration, and it takes about three to six months to complete. Dr. Han will schedule periodic checkups to monitor your progress and determine exactly when your implants will be able to support your permanent denture.

Permanent Denture

Once your implants have completely integrated with your jaw, Dr. Han will take impressions of your bite that will guide technicians in creating your custom denture. In about two weeks, your permanent denture will be ready to attach to your implants. Once it is in place, you can begin enjoying all the foods you love, speaking with complete clarity, and experiencing the confidence that only implant-supported dentures can provide.
