Are porcelain veneers right for me?

Determining Your Candidacy  for Dental Veneers

While porcelain veneers will work for the majority of patients, there are certain requirements you need to meet in order to qualify. Our dentists will check for...

Good Oral Health

Candidates must also be in good oral health. If you suffer from gum disease, damaged teeth, or a dental infection, these conditions must be resolved prior to cosmetic treatment.

Tooth vol.1

Sufficient Enamel

During your consultation, the dentist will examine your tooth enamel to make sure there is enough of this tissue to support veneers. Since a small amount of enamel is removed in order to allow traditional veneers to lay flush with surrounding teeth, you will need a sufficient amount of enamel. We also have prepless veneers that may be an option for patients with less enamel.

TMJ and Teeth Grinding

Porcelain veneers are not recommended for every patient, including those who suffer from temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder or bruxism (teeth grinding). However, if you have these conditions and use a mouth guard, you may be able to protect your veneers from damage.

A Closer Look at Your Options Prepared vs. Prepless Veneers

Our practice offers two types of dental veneers: prepress and prepared. When you schedule a consultation at our office, we can help you determine which option is best for you.

These are usually only recommended for patients who need little to no alteration to their teeth in order to achieve natural-looking results. These are best suited for patients without misalignment and only minor aesthetic issues. Because they involve a much simpler procedure, they are easily reversible.

Prepared veneers require the removal of some dental enamel, usually equal to the thickness of an eggshell. This allows the veneer to lay flush with surrounding teeth. If your dentist determines that a prepress veneer would protrude, or if you need a thicker veneer to conceal certain imperfections, a traditional veneer may be the better choice.

What happens during treatment?

Placing Your Veneers

Here is what you can expect when receiving custom dental veneers at our dental practice...
The dentist designs your custom veneer to precisely fit the tooth...

During your initial consultation, you will meet with the dentist and discuss your cosmetic goals for treatment, We will perform an oral exam and x-rays to determine whether you are a good candidate for veneers, and design a custom treatment plan accordingly.

We prepare the tooth for treatment by  removing plaque and decay and removing a small layer of the surface enamel. You may also choose to undergo whitening to brighten your entire smile before we design the veneer to match the shade of your enamel.

After your tooth is prepped, we take impressions. The dentist designs your custom veneer to precisely fit the tooth and blend with the size and shape of your natural teeth.

The impressions are sent to our dental lab where skilled technicians will craft the veneer. In approximately two weeks, they send the final product back to our Leesburg office.

In this second procedure, the dentist examines the look and the fit of the dental veneer against your tooth, making any necessary adjustments. When it satisfies our high standards and your expectations, we attach the restoration to the tooth surface with a strong dental adhesive, creating a bond that can last over a decade.
